About Skincare Insights

An independent UK publication about the science of skincare ingredients — what the evidence supports, and where the marketing runs ahead of it.

What we cover

Ingredient explainers, formulation science, and the practical mechanics of a routine. Typical questions: does this active have human trial data behind it, at what concentration, in what vehicle, and what does it realistically do over twelve weeks?

  • Active ingredients and the evidence for them
  • Formulation, pH, solubility and stability
  • Skin conditions and the mechanisms behind them
  • Routine construction, layering and tolerance building
  • How to read a study without a science degree

How we approach evidence

Skincare claims sit on a spectrum: randomised controlled trials at one end, in-vitro results and manufacturer data at the other. We try to say which is which. Where a mechanism is plausible but the human evidence is thin, we say that rather than dressing it up. Where an ingredient works but only within a narrow range of concentration or pH, that range is the story.
